Women's Sailing

Woman's Basics: This course is designed to provide instruction beginning with sailing basics and some intermediate to more advanced topics.  Instruction is provided from Green Bay Sail & Paddle’s instructors and include open sailing time to practice new skills to enjoy sailing on the bay.  This course is designed for two participants per boat to help build confidence, knowledge and skills in each participant’s sailing ability so that they will be able to sail a Hobbies® Wave catamaran independently on Green Bay. 
  • Series 1 - This five-week course is scheduled on Monday nights from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM.
    • Classses start June 10th, 2024. 
  • Series 2 - This five-week course is scheduled on Monday nights from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM.
    • Classes start July 15th, 2024.


Woman's Intro to Racing - Big Boat:  This course is designed to build a foundation to racing sailboats and the basic rules of the racecourse.  Our instructors will cover boat handling, racing rules, basic sail trim, as well as basic strategy and tactics.  Each class will have you out on the race course participating in a local race with one of our instructors.  Each class will wrap up with chalk talk where instructors will recap what happened on the racecourse. This course is all about teamwork and building confidence whether you are steering the boat, trimming the sails or just rail meat.  Note:  This is not an intro class.  We strongly suggest that you participate in one of our Woman's Basics Courses or have prior sailing experience and are able to self test on day one before taking this class.  
  • Series 1 - This five-week course is scheduled on Tuesday nights from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
  • Series 2 - This five-week course is scheduled on Tuesday nights from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.


Woman's Intro to Racing - Dingy: This course is designed to build a foundation to racing sailboats and the basic rules of the racecourse.  Our instructors will cover boat handling, racing rules, as well as basic strategy and tactics.  Each class will start with chalk talk where instructors will dissect sailboat racing followed by on the water sessions where you can put it all together.  Note:  This is not an intro class.  We strongly suggest that you participate in one of our Woman's Basics Courses or have prior sailing experience and are able to self test on day one before taking this class. 
 

Woman's Crusing:  Not interested in racing?  Have you taken our Basics class and are looking for more sailing time?  If you said yes to those questions, then this class is for you.  This course is desiged to build on your sailing skills in order to sail to a destination or just leisure sail for the day.  Our insturctors will cover more advanced boat handling, safety topics such as what to do in an emergency when far away from shore and things to look for when sailing to a destination.  Each class will start with chalk talk where various crusing topics will be discussed followed by a distance sail on the water.   Note:  This is not an intro class.  We strongly suggest that you participate in one of our Woman's Basics Courses or have prior sailing experience and are able to self test on day one before taking this class.  
  • Series 1 - This five-week course is scheduled on Wednesday nights from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM.
  • Series 2 - This five-week course is scheduled on Wednesday nights from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM.


Fall Women's Sailing Rendezvous -  If you participated in any of the Woman's Sailing programs this summer or in previous years you are welcome to join us for a free eveing of sailing followed by a bonfire, food and drinks.  Please register to ensure we have enough boats ready to go. Date TBD.

Cost:
$350 per person/per series

What to Bring:
  • Old tennis shoes or water shoes are required to be worn at all times to protect your feet.
  • A completed & signed waiver
  • Eyeglasses or sunglasses holder strap cord
  • Sunscreen
  • Swimming suit
  • Towel
  • Dry clothes
  • Water bottle full of water/ beverage
  • Snack
  • We provide life jackets however, students may bring their own if they wish. (All privately owned lifejackets are subject to inspection and approval of Green Bay Sail & Paddle Staff)


Directions:

The marina is at the west end of Bay Beach Rd, past the Zippin Pippin. To find SOUTH BAY, take HWY I-43 to exit #187 (Webster Ave), go north to Irwin St. and take a left on Irwin, which then turns into Bay Beach Rd. We are the last entrance on the right. Look for the SOUTH BAY Marina sign.

When you enter the marina follow the signs that say Green Bay Sail & Paddle.

Classes may be canceled and/or rescheduled at the discretion of Green Bay Sail & Paddle Inc. (“GBSP”) due to weather conditions and/or general concern of the participants and/or any and all Green Bay Sail & Paddle Inc. staff and volunteers.  Classes that do not meet the minimum number of registrants may be rescheduled.  GBSP will attempt to notify all registrants by email and/or telephone of cancellations 24 to 48 hours prior to commencement.  

For the safety of everyone, we ask that if you have or had a fevor in the past 48 hours that you do not come to class. We will do our best to rescheule you to a later class. You may be asked to leave if you do not abide by these safety guidelines.  Refunds will not be given to any participant for failure to comply with any and all safety guidelines.
